Evaluation Of The Film
Rounders Poker Scene
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media products uses real conventions of media products these include, ecu shots, extreme close up, which we used much as we needed to show anger on the characters faces during the poker game. The film rounders which we used as an outline, uses the same ecu shots during their poker game too. We used different techniques such as flashbacks to show the story in a much quicker way. Our media thriller is different but similar to other thrillers as it uses intensity to show hate and anger amongst the characters.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our product will generally fit into the young people+ to show the pressure among the young community whilst in relationships and what lengths they would go to to keep their boyfriend/girlfriends. Also how gambling can trouble your life, specially if your gambling with your life. In our film we do not use stereotypes. It has unique characters shown in a respectable way.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
As we have made a student film will want to distribute our film on via web, as it will relate more to students who use the Internet more. We distributed our film on to youtube. The reasons for distributing the film on to youtube and the web are so that other people involved in the media process can watch and evaluate how well we did. In the Uk the main distribution companies for example are Film Four, Working Title, Metrodome.
In the US, the main companies are 20th century fox, Universal and MGM.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
Men aged around 20+ will be more interested in the product as it relates to how they react when a friend betrays them. Also young men are always competing against one another and our film shows that by using real life situations and showing it as sensible as we could.
How did you attract/address your audience?
We used survey monkey.com to gather information on what people think of the film. We attracted the audience by building tension within the love triangle. The suspension could have been better but we stuck with the original plan. We used this, to give the audience a desire to want to carry on watching the film.
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
1 have learnt how to use and criticise different kinds of shots which 1 did not know before. I have learnt how to use the editing software, which took me a while to get used to but i managed to get there. To write my blog i used blogger, which i did hear of before this course, but never have i used it this much. I used IMovie which is very clever as this was the technology which bought our film together. We used wikipedia to gain information on the area of the chosen subject we wanted to base our film around. From using all these different technologies i have learnt that there is a wide range of different resources i can use to help plan and make a media piece.
During the preliminary task, I have learnt how to use real life situation and put it into shots during a two minute scene. When shooting the task it was the shortest time we had, it was the editing which was hard and took the longest to do.
During filming for our piece we did take longer than other groups as we weren't sure at first where our piece was going. We soon worked things out for the best and edited all the bits we had together and in the end I think it came out really well. During this whole process i feel like I have come along way, and learnt a lot on media. It has made me determined to carry on with the course next year. I can now watch a film and identify shots I didn't necessarily know before.
